This is one of largest known early Christian churches in Ireland. As you can see from the puddles, it was raining pretty good when I snapped this one. It was originally dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul, but ceased to be a cathedral in 1214. It was ransacked over the centuries by both the Vikings and the English. You can see a couple of gravestones, one on each side of the window, one asking for a prayer for Diarmuit, and one for Maccois. Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, Ireland; September, 2016.

As far I can judge, you've used the 'advantages' of a pouring day in an optimal way, Ted. The wet bricks show more colors now when compared on a dry day. The textures are wonderful. Another image with a lot of 'character'!

I, too, am attracted to ruins. I'm not sure what I find so enchanting about them? Maybe it's the sense of history? Maybe it's the sense of story? Maybe it's just that part of it still stands in defiance, to give testament to what it once was?

Beautifully photographed, Ted. And it seems fitting that it was photographed, shrouded in misty rains. It adds to its tale.

The most striking aspect of this image is the masonry that went into building this church. All those stones had to be pre-cut and fitted just right. There are only a handful of people that can do this today.

Long before the white man and long before the wheel, when the dark green forests were too silent to be real. Lightfoot 1967

The moisture has really brought out the colors and textures of the stones. From what is left of this building, we can see that at one time it was quite a beautiful structure.
