As quoted on the Memorial - "In honor and memory of the men of the United States Marine Corps who have given their lives to their country since 10 - November - 1775" This was taken in Washington DC August 2009. I've seen pictures of this monument my whole life so I was surprised by the way it took my breath away. It was much bigger than I thought it was and the area had a very dignified and sacred feeling to it. Note to friends: I've been away on vacation for a couple of weeks....and have a lot of catching up to do. I am looking forward to seeing all that you have posted since I left and will comment soon.

Wow, such a magnificent capture of this beautiful memorial Kim. Love the setting with the magnificent blue sky behind really drawing your attention to the statue & goold Old Glory. Skates

I've seen and translated movies about that island, about the casualties, it was a big tragedy. This monument is a real tribute, and the photo is a good reminder of that unhappy event. Good work.
