Dag nab it Jeff, why don't you post more than you do? I love your work. This is so pretty. I especially like the perspective. It appears you got down low to shoot this. This is a lovely fall capture. I might suggest a little more overall saturation on the composition. This is a keeper.

If the goal of taking a picture is to capture an feeling or mood you have succeeded in a grand fashion. It was 85 degrees here today and I felt the chill in the air. Jas
This is an image that demands a closer look ... and invites the viewer in. The appeal, I think, is on a number of levels. Aesthetics for one and ... I don't mean this sound trite nor as an affront ... curiosity.
I know what you did to achieve (or I think I do) the blur effect with the creeks' running water, but ... for some reason in your image here ... it really resounds. Truly. The colour of the water is unreal for one, and with that autumnal backdrop ... it looks otherworldly. Really nice.
There is ... echoing some of the above commentaries .... a 'feel,' a 'mood' to this piece. Cool, crisp are words that come to mind for descriptors ... but ... and here again ... I am at a loss to put my thoughts into words.
It may be your narrative having set the stage ... however, the overwhelming feeling I get from viewing this is a very visceral one of melancholy. And that's a good thing ... to have evoked, provoked anything in your viewers.
Caveats? Hmm, I almost want to agree that with Pat that the colour levels could be improved ... but, I think I like the stark contrast that exists now with the foliage and the water.

Creative capture!! There seems to be a "hazy" to the overall take and the colors are a wee lacking. Luv the place and fantastic flow workin'!! Good luck in the contest!!
