This lady is a member of the Chin tribe in Burma. Several women of her age had faces like this. They told me they could do mine in 24 hours. I thought there was a kind of elegance about her. She held herself high and was nicely dressed. Also, notice her ears. Thanks in advance for any comments. ENJOY!

A really great portrait, WC. That would be a ritual I don't understand. Perhaps she had some very heavy earring.
Excellent post.

Why didn't you go for it, Jen? Oh, it's permanent? I understand then. Totally amazing shot. I like that she is not looking right at you. Those ears are rather funky though. I'm just not used to it.

You captured this beautiful woman and her payae very well Jen.
I thought practice was now illegal and only the older women still display this unique artwork, but as you were offered it . . . .
The ears I am afraid I can not admire :) Perhaps it is a body beautification that one would have to become accustomed to to appreciate.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . Its a 200 year-old custom that is not practiced anymore, the Chin ethnic minority group in Myanmar would give their daughters elaborate facial tattoos to ward off attacks from neighboring princes who would often try to kidnap girls to be concubines. The elegance she radiates is reflected in the pose you chose to capture. The contrasting background help to complete the picture story. Your a natural Jen. Keep up the good work.
