This image is a full shot of the American Beech tree that I posted last Friday, April 24th in celebration of Arbor Day. (see It's Arbor Day) I wanted to know what the diameter of the tree trunk is and so I returned on Saturday, took the measurements and the result is 5 feet 6 inches!!! I will be gathering additional information about the tree. Beginning the second week in May, the Farmer's Market will open on the grounds and there will be people who will have knowledge about the tree - I'm very curious to find out how old it is. I love trees and and I'm just fascinated by this one. Enjoy!!!

That sky sure sets off the grand tree very well. I look forward to learning of the age. This is a good one Laura, good exposure settings to really bring it out. tigs=^..^=

It looks great, and would make a good climbing tree....not by me though! Maybe 60 years ago I would climb it. I like the positioning of the benches there underneath, and the beautiful sky above. Excellent shot, Laura.

This is a lovely scene with the two trees just starting to sprout leaves and the bright green grass Laura. A nice looking sky too. Well composed image.

This must be a day for lone trees!..;)

A great vantage point for this...Beeches grow to a massive old age!...and this one is pretty old I guess!

---I'm very curious to find out how old it is---

Laura, tree lovers can give you an indication of the age by its diameter.
It has to be cut down in order to know exactly the age. Then the growth rings can be counted. Therefore, I hope that you'll never know its age exactly, if you know what I mean (lol).

Thanks for this very fine and interesting shot my friend.

Laura - American Beech have a growth factor of 6. Multiply the diameter by 6 to get an approximate age, making this about 33 years old. With no crowding around it, it has been able to grow to the large, circular shape that is so beautiful. Well composed with the rule of thirds.

A magnificent looking tree and good composition of the scene, Laura. Beautiful colours and great details in the photo. The tree's age can also be determined by taking a core sample; no need to cut it down, so you can put the chainsaw away for another day.
