I know that this isnt a wonderful shot but let me explain. Some 15 years back we had our usual Remberance Day service at our village graveyard. Along the sides of the sets of graves, we have memorials to individuals from the village who died overseas in the war. Each year, every one of these crosses has an individual poppy cross laid on it. But this one year for some reason they didnt leave one on this cross. This upset me, and I left the one I was wearing for him. I started to wonder who he was, what he was like. So every year I go and lay a poppy on his memorial so he is never left out ever again. May we remember them.

What a moving story, Jo. We've visited Normandy many times and have visited the American War Cemetery that overlooks Omaha Beach and it is very moving indeed. But I didn't know until recently how bad the battle for Caen was and how brave the men who fought there were.

What a great tribute you have posted here Jo. It's very moving. I love that you chose this very weathered stone for your remembrance. The story only makes it more fitting. Excellent work Jo.
