Great image, certainly needs to be viewed full size to fully appreciate the detail in this. Everything draws the eyes inwards, so personally i'd like to see something to focus on in the centre. I know trying to add something with apophysis can change the rest of the flame, so maybe a seperate render combining the two in PS could work.

Wish it would stay still!
It makes me think of a certain kind of twisted thread. Maybe a special embroidery thread, but I think more the kind you'd use for piping. A thinnish one. The kind that has a shine to it. The colours don't seem quite right for the title, but that's not really what the pattern suggests to me, so it's fine from my point of view.
I'm thinking of the technique they use (whatever it is) whereby you can take woven or crocheted or knotted threads and stiffen it, moulding it into a 3d shape to create something that looks a bit like this - a shallow bowl in this case. Only thing is, there's no bottom. Somebody must have created a ring of threadwork and then moulded it so it folds back on itself. Kind of neat but not very functional. Luckily, desktop images aren't really meant to be functional, so it works perfectly well as it is.
