Constantine the Great was the first Christian to rule the Roman Empire. This was taken in York, England in which in the time Constantine was hailed to rule, year AD306, the city was called Eboracum. But it was not until AD312, the legend says that in fear of the size of his opposing army in war that the Pagan Constantine looked to the gods for aid and received a sign, a burning cross in the sky. That night God came to him in a dream and said "With this sign conquer" The armies then fought with crosses on their shields and were victorious. Constantine had a strong influence on the rise of Cristianity in Western Europe.

I'm never quite sure what to make of photos of statues, but I like this one. Doesn't he look thoughtful, and kind of smug. I'm looking at this like a portrait and I think you presented it well - the background's just blurred enough to make him stand out well. Pity you didn't wipe his head over for him first though poor fella!

Yeah, you got him standing out (sitting out) from the background nicely and I think we can take the bird poop as a metaphor for a truth about all politicians and leaders and thus reconcile it's presence in this photo as something significant and fecund with meaning. Or not. :)

He does look a bit smug yes lol. Either that or his is working hard on ignoring the poop all down his head :) A very nice shot though Lisa.

..I thought you had made a stop off at Rome on your European travels when I saw the title Lisa! I think he needs a bit of spit and polish! he has gone very green and moldy with old age! He must be shiny gold under all that green! ....nice capture though my friend - and I agree with Nigel - he does have a kind of smug expression on his face! lol!

A great image of Constantine Lisa, but did you rework it in blue or this is its true color ? Anyway, the blue and the wall in the background give to this statue a third dimension. It's a good job.
