Hi guys, Night photography is not really my cup of tea. I find it really challenging but I don't think I'm improving on it. But tonight we had a full moon and I decided to play with my D40. I want to hear critiques on this photo. I'd like to know on how I can improve this, what's wrong, etc. Tips will very much be appreciated. Thanks, Nathan

Pretty mysterious mood-setting clouds... I like that a lot! Not sure what lens you were using but it's really tough to shoot a moon without a telephoto. Nevertheless the shot isn't bad but the unfortunate lack of detail in the moon due to distance takes away from the shot as a whole. Anyways, I hope to see more and I hope my comments were helpful.

I agree with Emily. I like the clouds and the light on them a lot. To get more detail of the moon you could try to shoot at a lower exposure. Perhaps two exposures to get the clouds in one and the moon in the other and then mix them in a photo editing software. Could be worth a try.

Night shots are not easy, but you learn every time you try. One way of bringing out the detail on the moon is to take the photograph in raw mode and focus on the moon with one focus point. You can select the moon shape in Photoshop and bring out the details and then invert the selection and bring out the detail in the sky - one way to get both! :) Good attempt though - I like the mist and colours around the moon.

That's really a good moon pic. Love the clouds.

A bit of a faster shutter speed and then play with the exposure.
The moon is quite a lot brighter than we think and can look
blown out very easily.

I like the clouds too. Great question! Looking forward to the results.
