Denali National park, Alaska, USA - July 2011. In the sub-arctic desert of Denali, elevations changes produce dramatic changes in the landscape. Trees, thin in the taiga, become sporadic in the tundra and are not seen on the mountains. All signs of vegetation disappears as the mountains rise above the tundra line. In the shade of a large mountain behind, a braided river winds its way across the landscape. Enjoy!

For an average Polish person Taiga and tundra mean only one - Siberia and the hardships there to be sufferred by the politically incorrect people of all times in Poland. Meantime things have changed and now Alaska can play a very special role.
Alaska being rather different, especially in consideration of the long lasting series: "Northern Exposure" - almost like a paradise on earth.
So perhaps Alaska is where we should be heading !!!!

Amazing! They do look like deserts (of a sort) rising up from the lower elevations. Cool shot!

Gorgeous landscape.Reminds me of a series of books I've read. Jean M. Auel's Cro-mangnon people. Their landscape looked perhaps like Denali.Wild,Dramatic and Majestic.Stunning photo,Thad.

With its braided river and the mountains this could well be a NZ scene which is not what I imagined for Alaska. I am really enjoying seing these images Thad. The lighting in this one is lovely.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
