What? No velvet? No! lol I know that those in the know have black velvet for foofy backdrops. But, I had to improvise and use my overcoat. I was surprised, when looking at it through the macro lens, how many colors are in the threads of a black overcoat, excluding the lint, of course. So, with the magic of PS, this is a faux velvet backdrop for very real orchids. Enjoy! EXIF: ISO 100, f/11, 10 sec (not hand-held ;-))

Black Velvet for a background is way too sophisticated for me. I don't even know what it is I use, I just know it's black, and I still have to burn some of the background. This looks great to me. Very nicely done, Thad.

It's a beauty, Thad. Just out of curiosity, I ran it through DeNoise to see what would happen to the background texture.

I can see it right down to the fabric!...lol...But the beauty of the flower makes a persons eyes go straight to the wonderful colors and textures instead! Superb Thad!!!

That's a great looking shot. Whatever you choose to use as a backdrop is fine as long as it creates the illusion. I've had fun using old painters drop cloths for certain portraits for people and plants. The wrinkles and seams add to the flavor.

A person uses what they have on hand or back Thad. It worked great as a backdrop for the colorful flowers.
