Newport, Rhode Island, USA. My children made a playhouse from large cardboard boxes or with blankets over some chairs. The Vanderbilt children has a two room playhouse, with heat, fully furnished, a scale model of the original Breakers house, that burned a few years before the large mansion, aka 'summer cottage', was built. In addition to the furniture and toys, a nanny oversaw the activities and could ring the butler in the main house to bring snacks to the children. Enjoy!

Like to see them build this in a tree! Ha!

Those Vanderbilt kids must have been plenty spoiled. I know people who live in houses this size.

Quaint, Thad, and if you hadn't said, I would not have any idea this is a kid's playhouse. A fine shot.

Very interesting, Thad. Us kids had the blanket over the card table type playhouse. This one is pretty extravagant! Excellent shot, Thad.

A beautiful play house it is Thad. I remember a little play house with a roof thatched with leaves and branches (about 6 ft x 4 ft) where I played with my sister. It is nice to be rich but over-rich - I am not sure.

Being inventive gives great fun. Think therefore that your children have even more enjoyed their playhouse rather than the Vanderbilt children, Thad.

Very fine capture though!

Its a fine looking house and a great shot of it Thad.
Poor little Vanderbilt children - deprived of using their imagination and making their own playhouse !

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Elaborate for just a playhouse...I'd be thankful to live in something that size alone full time...

Nice presentation...Faved...

I´m with Lyn, building their own playhouse must be much more fun.
But I think there are many people who would be thankful if they owned a house like this one for real to live in.
A wonderful clear photo of the beautiful house.

Wow, you people were lucky to have such elaborate playhouses as kids. I had a hole in the ground to play in, and when it rained it doubled as a swimming pool. We envied the kids with cardboard boxes.
Great craftsmanship in the playhouse and elaborate detailing. A nicely composed scene, Thad.
