Everglades National Park, Florida, USA. A few cool evenings, followed by warm and sunny days meant that the alligators were finding a dry spot on the shoreline to warm up their body temperatures. The knobby bumps on their backs, osteoderms, have blood vessels that provide a means of controlling body temperature. Being hard and scaly, they provide protection to the alligator while allowing great flexibility.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

I was told more than once that they can outrun you for the first hundred feet then run out of steam. Fine capture Thad.

Another fine capture Thad - and I think you deserve a medal for bravery. Thank you for the interesting narrative also.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Think it's in need for some sun tan oil on it's back. So don't hesitate, Thad, ☺ ☺ ☺ .

Unbelievable capture, my friend!

I thought this was a log in the thumbnail! lol Perhaps, the alligator wanted me to think that, too! Great photo! I don't think I would have stuck around to take it, myself.
