This is Big Boy, a 7 year old Lion at the Moholoholo Game Reserve . He was hand raised by a human and even went into the bush with him for long walks..when he got to big to handle, he was playing to rough although he didn't realise that he was, so the man brought him to Moholoholo for rehab and to put back into the wild.. BUT.. he's now "Human imprinted" which means that he assossiate himself with humans and not animals..and because of that he can't go back to the wild because his a danger to humans. he'll have to stay at the Rehab Center forever.. Another ambassodor to show people why wild animals should stay in the wild and not be tamed..

A very nice pic. A shame he has to spend his life in captivity and in Africa of all places.

Beautiful photo, great info even if a little sad, athough I'm thinking his rehab place will be a huge area, but guess it's not the same..

I love the look on his face! What a gorgeous animal! I wouldn't want to keep him for a pet though. You are right about them belonging in their own environment for their own safety. Great shot!

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Many years ago I saw an ad in the newspaper for an "African Lion Cub," and asked my husband could we buy him.

"Sure!" he said. "You pay for the fence."

To which I replied, "And you buy a zebra every month or so."

I meank what a stupid idea, trying to keep a lion for a pet!

What a face this one has! Wonderful! A picture worth a thousand words.

If I were you, I'd blur out the fence in the background so we wouldn't be reminded that this gentle giant is captive.

He's a beauty. It's sad what people do sometimes. Great shot, I really like the composition of this one.

I think leaving the fence in shows up the plight of this poor creature even better. Artistically...technically I agree with Anastasiatheo01, but from an emotional point of view, once you know the story behind this beautiful animal, it becomes more poignant to see the cage he's been forced to live in. :)PJ ..............my two cents' worth

I agree with both phasmid and anasthesia for the opinions. That series you are doing now makes me think a lot. Humans are specialists at making ''reserves'' for other humans, animals, parks, keeping the biggest part of earth for themselves and even encroaching more everyday on these small spaces. We take what we want without consideration for the consequences....I am getting less optimistic about the fate of earth and nature, as unfortunately, messages like yours reach only those who are already open for them. By the way, this shot is excellent, and yes, it makes me sad. :(

What a terrific photo. I love the big cats. And, you know, while it may seem unkind that this magnificent cat will have to spend the rest of his days in captivity, people need to look at the good side of this too. He will live longer and be better cared for than in the wild, and he will never go hungry or be savaged by some other animal when he is too old to defend himself. You don't mention *why* he was hand raised by a human. If he was a rescue, I don't think he was done a disservice, but instead has been lovingly cared for.

Sorry I missed him Marietha. I love lions and just recently took some shots of the new resident lion at our Houston Zoo. None quite as good as this one for sure. So glad you brought this one to us. I know it was a while ago but I missed a lot over the holidays and now and then get to play catch up.
