This week saw the 25th Anniversary of the first fight into space of the Space Shuttle - the STS-1 mission. NASA has made quite a big thing of it on their site but didn’t find time to restore and enhance their photo archives of it. So, here courtesy of some extensive Photoshop & Noise Ninja repair work is the launch of STS-1, Columbia.

Incredible work you have done. The result is stunning. That is why you scored very high in the voting booth my friend. Pin sharp capture and no noise.

Not adding anything new here, but I just wanted to join the people before me and say wow! Looking at it I almost feel like I'm watching it happen right in front of me.

First of all, I think it's a brilliant picture, and thanks to you, it's one of my favourites.

However, I came across a printed copy and it has a lot more warm yellow, orange and red tones in the smoke and thrust flames. Compared to my notebook, that is.

I wonder if it's my monitor, or someone edited the printed copy. Would you, Phil, like comment on this? Anyone?

the original archive image is very degraded but not overly dissimilar in colour and hues which would lead me to conclude the printed image you have seen had its colour or saturation artificially enhanced.
