I caught this Swallowtail Butterfly refueling himself on some clover last spring. The image was taken at Horn Rapids Park on the Yakima River about 8 miles from my home. ----------- An interesting fact about this park is that during WWII it was an Italian Prisoner of War camp. The prisoners worked in the local agricultural areas. When the war ended, a good portion of them made this area their home.

Butterflies are the way to my heart...flowers just make the trip smoother!!!! Lovely image Michael...the way the flower in the backgroud is very blurred yet the the flower the butterfly is resting on is sharp makes this quite intriguing!! Into my fav's and thank you :))

Beautiful piece of work Michael. Interesting information also, thanks for that. One detail though I think that the butterfly is a kind of swallowtail not a monarch, but I may be mistaken. Still a beautiful work of nature.Cheers.Al.

This is awesome! To think anyone could actually take this kind of photo is a minor miracle!!....you are such a grand picture taker..smile...the colours in the butterly wings pick right up on the colours in the flowers..its as tho they are sunkissed with yellows!! This is so wonderfully soothing! You have no idea what this does to an office environment; I put it on the receptionist's computer as the background and sole image in a slide show screensaver. The whole room seems different. The colors are amazing, the detail precise where it needs to be and weak where it should be also. The depth of field couldn't be better. I did notice a slight amount of noise, but that does not stop me from giving it a 10.
