In Switzerland, around the city of Gruyère, you can find traditional cheese makers. They never changed the recipe. With twenty six cows, this one produces two cheese wheels of 22 kgs each per day. The big copper pot you can see on the photo, is 103 years old. A wonderful day spent with him. Link for Etivaz cheese. Enjoy :-)

Having been raised in Wisconsin, Pierre, I can honestly tell you Gruyère cheese is high on my list. I'm delighted you shared this photo. A day without cheese is like a day without sunshine! Well done! - Patty

Ah Pierre, the smell of Gruyere makes me hungry for some. I know how hard they have to work to make it and you've captured it perfectly here. Thanks for sharing this. TYU=thank you unnecessary ;)

It is always so great to see people at their work. Thank you for posting this shot and the paragraph of explanation.

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

I really enjoyed looking at the site you set up for us to view, and of course, I love cheese as well...but as I was looking at that lovely 103-year-old pot (of course no other pot would do, I imagine) I was struck by the man and what I supposed was his son working together and wondering how many generations this particular craft (No Pun Intended) has been handed down through. And what a lovely tradition it is. Thanks for this post :)PJ

Awesome shot, Pierre. Looks like a modern-day painting done in the style of one of the old Dutch masters. I especially love the 'balance' of this composition, although I wish the head of the fellow in front of the window had stayed out of shot.

I cannot live without cheese, and seeing this just reminds me how MUCH I love it. It must have been a fantatic time there Pierre. And Gruyere cheese is one of the most yummmy! Thanx for the temptation my friend!! Verena

I absolutely love this shot Pierre. I did something similar at the Domain of Bokrik (sp?) in Belgique. It's just a wonderful slice of life that we don't normally see.
