Walking the tract of an old plantation I came across this shack. Apparently it's an old trappers' shack, and surrounded by live oaks and magnolias it reminded me of when I was a boy and used to wander the swamps, rifle in hand and dog at my feet looking for whatever adventure life sent my way. Many was the day I came across abandoned shacks, the trash-pile full of treasures that would fill my imagination as I passed my solitary day accompanied by the guests of my mind and the ever-present tools of my childhood. There aren't many of these shacks remaining of the Louisiana I once knew, so I wanted very much to keep this one to preserve the past that I knew and loved.

Lovely composition, Regmar. They say we have the big trees...looks like you have a few down there also. Great shot! :) Sherri

I have done a lot of backpacking in Vermont and have run into a few of these hunting cabins and this shot captures that feeling of great discovery. When you step around a shielding tree and see a mountain of memories in a tiny little shack. Nice job.

Here's example of what I was saying Regmar:

Comment: I like the framing with the trees and the moss gives it ghostly appearance. Shack adds to the scene. I really enjoyed the narrative.

What I'm really thinking: I like the framing with the tree and the moss gives it ghostly appearance. I'm not really crazy about the color of the trees. It doesn't look natural. How did you get this effect? (I wouldn't have asked this because I wouldn't want to show my ignorance on photography and maybe it is natural) The shack would look much better if that little tree wasn't blocking the view. I realize you can't have both. The framing and the cabin with an unobstructed view. I really enjoyed the narrative.
