A sleeper dike (in Dutch slaperdijk) is a dike which does not normally face water, but serves as a backup if a "front-line" dike in front of it breaks.

The a nap taking cows have done literally where 'sleeper dike' stands for, John, ☺ . Think however that they don't understand that its name was meant figuratively, in order to express its real function.
