Wonderful image. This is a lot like a pool I saw in Morocco. This pool is much newer and so nice.

Don't know the use of this 'kulam' (as Raj said). Would have been better to provide us with some more information, Sayed in order to formulate a more appropriate comment.

A pond or kulam, nevertheless it would make a very pleasant swimming pool !!!
I love the stone lining, the steps and even the growth at the sides.
Not being too religious myself, I do hope that I am not hurting anybody's feelings, though. Just in case.
