I don't know what type of camera you have but it looks like you got too close and ruined your focus and detail. The flash didn't help either. If you click here you will see what you should be trying to do.

Hi Sara! You have so much potential here for a 'portrait' of a cat...but they are hard to photograph as well as make into a good desktop!
it appears as though your focus might be off or that you somehow forgot to focus before you took the picture. The flash did indeed burn out all the details including Patches eyes!
I have worked hard trying to photograph my cats good enough to post and have not yet succeeded in almost 5 years :(
Feel free to ask questions of any artists here who's works you like, read some books on photography and you will go far in your photographic endeavors.

Cats are notoriously difficult to shoot, far harder than dogs! Try shooting a little to the side instead of head on - you'll do better with the eyes that way. I have 2 black and white cats and I know how hard it is to get a good shot.
