Fallout shelters did actually get some use way back then. Eisenhower was president in the USA, and a Fallout shelter was what you built in your back yard. This one at least got some use as one of Detroit's Voting sites. My, how time flies.

Wonderful step back in time, Doug. I am finding that many people are slobs compared to the "snappy dressers," back in the day.

I agree with TicK on the snappy dresser. In fact, I'm headed down to San Luis Obispo today and am wearing the very same outfit. My sweater has orange and green horizontal stripes. Do you recall what color his sweater was.

And I do remember the fallout shelters as well as those moronic "duck and cover" commercials and the occasional drills in grade school. To this day when I hear a loud bang while walking downtown or in a mall, I instinctively duck and cover just in case.

Some shots on Caedes take me to a different place like I have my own personal National Geographic photographer. Your shots are my personal time machine. I desperately want to travel back there and tell him to get that pen out of his pocket before it leaks all over his shirt.

Fallout ...... voting sight .... hmmmm
Some might say the results are one in the same.

This is another great image, Doug. I also noticed the dress of the day . Great post .

A classic 50's shot - we all remember fallout shelters and drills and that outfit was well suited to a young man in the city in the 50's - wonderful remembrances with your shots Doug.

Wow fallout shelters in the 50s, it seems to me the government regulated Americans political views on the cold war by fear.

There's a huge fallout shelter not too far from here. Never knew it was there until it was decommissioned a few years back.

A dapper looking gentleman and good capture Doug. Nice composition of the scene and good textures in the photo.
