About seventy feet up this tree is the biggest bird's nest I have ever seen. Every year when the Osprey return from their Winter vacation, they add fresh bedding to their nesting site. It's strategically placed on the northern tip of a small island in Buck Lake, and from it they can see the length and breadth of five other adjacent lakes. The nest has been in that position for many years, and we've given up betting on when it will break off the tree top.

That is quite a huge nest. From that vantage point the osprey can see all around and even a small fish in the lake.

That tree top has to be very strong & sturdy to hold that large nest ... especially year after year. I can only imagine the Osprey's 'birds eye view' is spectacular. Nicely captured. Doug.

You are really dating yourself, Doug, with your language. Heavy? Why not just say groovy and far out. While we can all agree that the Osprey nest is well constructed, it's a stretch to call it heavy. Led Zeppelin is heavy. Ospreys are more what I would call keen or neato although I will settle for groovy as long as you complete the phrase with man as in "groovy, man".

Oh, by the way, fab shot.

The scale is well presented in this one, Hawkeye. Next thing you know you will have a delinquent Osprey living with you.
Love the shot of the penthouse nest and Osprey.

I'll pick Feb. 19th, 2015 for the day it comes crashing down. If you hear a chainsaw running later that evening ignore it, you are just imagining the sound. A great find and fine snap Doug. Great colours and lighting in the photo.
