It's 1964, and an Election in Detroit is in progress. If you read the sign to the left of the man's head, the building is a Fallout Shelter. It's a term I had forgotten.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Perhaps the fallout shelter is for broken presidential election promises Doug. He looks like a "Goldwater Man," to me.
I absolutely love your shots from your newspaper days.

I recall the drills we used to do in school. As if they were really going to save us. Thanks for sharing, Doug.

Oh I remember those signs very well, the B&W treatment is perfect. I can still remember that someone back in the day had a underground shelter placed in the front side yard. tigs=^..^=

Headlines in the news reads "Sitting President Johnson wins a landslide victory over Republican challenger Barry Goldwater in the 1964 presidential election." Lots of changes happened in the year 1964. The movie, Stanley Kubricks dark comedy, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb premieres. The film satirizes Cold War politics, playing upon American anxieties and changing attitudes towards nuclear warfare. What a time to be a photojournalist. Good picture that conjures up the past.

If I could tell the story in words, I wouldn't need to lug around a camera. ~Lewis Hine The Earth without art is just 'eh'.
