at paines creek in brewster, massachusetts.... cape cod bay lies just beyond....... (the saga of 'poor pitiful pearl', chapter two: last sunday, while out stalking the elusive photograph, I had a wee mishap... I slipped on some very slick marsh muck and fell flat on my back, but not before I broke my fall with my left arm, which saved my arse but not the arm... my camera fell on top of me and survived the fall, but I fell on top of my arm, fracturing my wrist in two painful places... the cast will be on for six weeks... and, yes, I'm left-handed... sigh...)

Fantastic combination of tones and textures and wonderful composition and the lone figure walking in the background adds to the mood. I truly hope your wrist heals ok, you poor thing.

You certainly need a break..I mean, you haven't had the best run of luck here lately, my dear. Lovely pic, although you had to pay dearly for it.

Get better soon!!

Looks and sounds like Paines Creek is aptly named. There's probably another one called Suffering somewhere in the area. Sorry to hear about your fall. I'll consider this a fall picture without the leaves. Sorry, just trying to cheer you up. Maybe you can get the good fairy PJ to cast a spell over you in the future. Photo is quite lovely. I love the angle. Looks like you were pretty close to the ground. Sorry again. The colors are great and the clouds seem to be pointing the walker in the correct direction. I hope you mend soon and I always knew you were in your right mind. Get well Mary.

A beautiful picture full of painful memories. I'm so sorry to hear about your arm, but at least your camera was unharmed! lol (just a joke!)

My goodness Mary, I hope you get better very soon. This is a wonderful coastal shot. One I wish I could have taken; a great sky, beach area, and water, all working so well for you on this day.

Youe eye for this comp works so well to me.The wispy clouds and the creek leading out to the figure with his head down.A great image. This might be a candidate for a B+W because the mood and comp are so good.

A fabulous shot, Mary. It really epitomises the wide open spaces, peace and solitude of Cape Cod. The C-Index is way too low for this shot. If it comes up in the VB for me, it's getting 10.

Good shot, Mary. Does the title refer to the solitude of the place or the person in the distance?

I had actually downloaded your fine photo here, as well as, another of yours, namely in that instance; "winter dusk".

Just some play time in Photoshop.

That said ... and coming back to your visual offering here ... adjusted the colour balance ... only slightly, but more so ... corrected for the barrel distortion.

Not necessarily a biggie, however for my certain ... ahem ... proclivities ... I did think that that is warranted and did add some value added to the composition.

'Warped' the left hand side, and mostly kept the change relegated to the portion of your photograph. Smart sharpened a tad to bring the background human subject a bit more into the context and concept of the setting.

Now then ...

Really nice shot Mary. Make no mistake about my words above. As always, take the fact that you drew me in for a closer look as the highest and most sincerest of compliments from me.

Wonderfully composed, placement of everything ... just so.

It's not always easy to segregate your images and find one to jump in on ... but, this one spoke to me as they say.

Annnnd ... I sincerely hope that you are well on the mend after your accident. Maybe between your mishaps, Bob's and some others ... 'we' can get a group coverage insurance thing happening?

Just kidding, of course.

Thanks for sharing this one with us, and be ... or get well. :o)
