maybe they had a premonition that a huge wave was about to erupt over the jetty... at any rate all but one of them took to the air at the same time, and this shot was pure serendipity....
As a composition this is quite magical and the colours are gorgeous too. I wish the shot was just a little sharper, but I appreciate the difficulties of catching such fast-moving birds without sacrificing other aspects. I wonder if you have thought of producing an "oil-painting" version of the image - it would lend itself to such a treatment beautifully.
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
Serendipity doesn't come in to it. It's called being in the right place at the right time, camera in hand, with finger on the button. A great capture, Mary. Very well done indeed.
Great shot Mary and a great word. Serendipity is one of my favourite words because a) I like the story of where the word comes from and b) when I was a kid of 9 or 10 my favourite TV programme was called Serendipity. (btw my other favourite word is crepuscular, which means active at twilight. Cats are crepuscular animals!)
We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"
This is truly an FAB-U-LOUS action capature. Boy you sure caught this one at the right time for sure. Love the action of the crashing waves on the rock and the gulls flying around. BRAVO
