Took this as we drove up to the lighthouses on the Keweena Peninsula of the U.P

I was told that I missed the height of the fall season by one week, which I had to postpone due to some family issues.

I noted also that there are alot of pines in the area.

I loved this area, not sure If I'll make back up there~ it's a long drive from my friends B&B (all day~ about 6 hours total driving time, so we stayed at a historic manor B&B for one night which was very opulent but the beds/pillows not so good. :)

Thanks for your comments.

Here is some info:

Houghton and Hancock, located on US Highway 41, are the main cities in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Houghton is home to Michigan Technological University and Hancock is the home of Finlandia University. The early settlements of Houghton and Hancock Michigan grew up on each side of the narrow end of Portage Lake with Houghton on the south side and Hancock on the north side. Hancock, as well as the northern part of the Keweenaw Peninsula,

The Michigan Technological Univ. is across the road from this vantage point.

The color still looks like it was pretty great - it does come earlier up there - I like this perspective with foliage in the front as well as the long view.

Sandi, this image shows a striking similarity to the area where I live. Behind the sand dunes along our coast there are some waters too. They arose after the Germans bombed our coastline during WWII so that the sea had the possibility to flood our peninsula. Deep waters were created by the effect of ebb and flow (with strong tidal currents). After WWII the dunes have been restored but the waters have remained intact.
Beautiful photograph that evokes certain associations in me. Thanks for that!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
