The plant is Patterson’s Curse, imported from Europe as seed for flower gardens during the 1800s. It is said to have escaped from the garden of Mr Patterson in Albury. It found conditions favourable and quickly invaded pastureland across three states and proved to be toxic to cows, sheep, horses and pigs. Notice the colour of the pollen on the Bees legs? It apparently makes a very nice honey. Enjoy.

Hey Greg, the wings are hard to see because you’re looking at the edge of them.

I just took the advice above and looked at this in the largest format. I can't get over the detail and delicateness. I second what's been said before, this is an exceptionally fine shot.

How can something so beautiful be so toxic? As if the world weren't beautiful enough, man thinks he can change it and look what mischief he stirs up. This shot is stunning.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

A stunning photo Robert. The dark background really makes it quite outstanding. I hope I get it in the VB.

I thought Pattersons Curse looked very like our Vipers Bugloss which grows in abundance here, so I looked it up and indeed it is the same plant. It does make wonderful honey :)
