This is a 4 story tall golden pin oak on the condo property where I live - taken 3 weeks ago. Alas it is bare now and we are also without the wonderful sunshine we had the day I shot this. The angle on this is down as I was on the 3rd floor terrace of my neighbors. All comments and critiques appreciated.
On my property I have live oaks, red oaks and white oaks. None of them turn colors like this. Most don't even lose their leaves although some do turn brown and drop off. I have learned the hard way that oaks are gorgeous from a distance but are extremely messy. Whether they're dropping leaves, acorns, sap or that yellow flower pollen all over the place, the drought here has taken its toll. With their amazing root system, the oaks continue to soak up whatever water they can find. They become top heavy and have been dropping "branches" that are as much as three feet in diameter. I have plenty of firewood for decades to come. Much of my wood will be cut, split and stacked years after I'm a pile of ashes.
I'm headed back into the fog or under a rock for the winter. Not sure when or if I'll be back. I won't be posting and will rarely comment. I'll drop by from time to time, but time is the key component in my hectic schedule. I simply need more than 24 hours in a day to keep up. Have a good one. Happy that your home boy won (I assume that most of the Chicago area is Democratic). Good luck with your trust or whatever. Like sands through an hour, so are the days of our lives.
