A beautiful sculpture at the Chicago Botanic garden which stands over the Heritage Garden which showcases planting by family groups based on Carl Linnaeus work. Here is some additional information on him from Wikipedia: Carl Linnaeus ( 23 May 1707 10 January 1778) was a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist, who laid the foundations for the modern biological naming scheme of binomial nomenclature. He is known as the father of modern taxonomy, and is also considered one of the fathers of modern ecology. He left Sweden and lived in the Netherlands, attending the University of Leiden for several years, and published his most famous work there "Systema Naturae". He then returned to Sweden and did many plant classification journeys to further his work.

Statues throughout Europe tend to attract pigeons that often leave their "mark." This sculpture is lucky to be in the Chicago Botanic Gardens. Good one, Kathy.

Kathy, according to your narrative, think that you won't be amazed that Carl Linnaeus is still famous in Holland. A lot of streets and parks are called after him. On my turn, I'm somewhat amazed that there's a sculpture of him in Chicago.

Think it's time to buy his "Systema Naturae" now, and to lay it under my pillow, lol.

Very good and interesting post!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Excellent capture of that handsome sculpture. I can't tell how big it is, but it looks rather large to me.
