The Mercury Turnpike Cruiser is a full-size automobile that was the flagship model of the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company for the 1957 and 1958 model years. Named after the 1956 creation of the Interstate Highway System, the Turnpike Cruiser was produced in two-door and four-door hardtop bodystyles. In 1957, a two-door convertible was also produced, serving as the pace car for the Indianapolis 500 of that year.(Wikipedia) I photographed this at a classic car show last September. Compared to today's cars this thing was like a boat. I remember all the cars from the late 50's and early 60's in this two tone turquoise combo that was so popular and with those big rear fins. Something a bit different from me - it must be Wacky Wednesday.

Love the colour but would not like to drive it. Someone must love it very much for it to be in such pristine condition.
You id really well with this - it is not always easy to get a car so well displayed at a show - especially when nuisances such as other humans get in the way :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Not only is this a good capture with the camera, but the narrative was well written, and very informative. They were not made to conserve on gas usage back in those days were they? I love those fins, but sure would not want to parallel park it. tigs=^..^=

---the flagship model of the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company---

By its size it could be called a battleship as well, Kathy.

They don't make them like this anymore, ☺ .

Perfect Wacky Wednesday image!

I'm a big fan of Jay Leno's Garage so I've gotta download this one Kathy. Unfortunately the wet British climate rots so many old cars so I don't get to see many old crocks. )o:

Thanks for uploading.

Progress equals a trashed planet since mankind is too busy altering it. BTW find the classic definition of Caedes here. Enjoy yourself today (o: because you don't know what tomorrow may bring.
