This beauty is Chicago Apache Daylily. It is long blooming from mid June through August. At one time the Chicago area had two of the foremost daylily breeders in the country. One of them was a Brother in the Techny Missionaries which was very close to where I used to live. The older generations of my maternal family are buried in the cemetery on Technys grounds. I've posted several pictures from there through the years. I don't know if this was one of his but it sure is a looker. This is my foofy for this first Friday of July.

WOW! It is a dark beauty and lovely. I'll have to tell my friend that is a big lily collector the name of this one. I know he will love it.

Kathy, I've told my children that when I die, I don't want Arums on my coffin. But for lilies, comparable to this beautiful specimen, I would have no objection at all.
However, I hope that the inevitable goodbye will be a long time in coming.
