Finally a good day to get away..so we went for a drive thru part of the Columbia River Gorge today.A perfect day for it.It sure felt good to see some pretty scenery for a change, along with good weather for photo taking. This area is a National Forest and the River cuts thru Oregon and Washington and is 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep with canyon walls in Oregon. This is where the Oregon Trail went thru, led by Lewis and Clark.. and it's the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon. The Gorge has 77 waterfalls. It's also the boardsailing capital of the world. It works like a wind tunnel generating high winds. At its highest point stands Crown Point, where Vista House overlooks this spectacular view.It is a gift shop with many things from the Pacific Northwest being sold there. I will post a closer up version of Crown Point on the next pic.It was a grand getaway day for me,about an hour and a half from my house.I hope you enjoy this scene as much as I did...thanx for viewing..

Excellent shot. Very pretty view. I am very familiar with this area. I used to go through here to visit my brother in Portland and I used to ride mountain bike at Hood River. Very nice job.

Wonderful capture. What an amazing place and you captured it beautifully. I also like the narrative. It adds context to the scene which increases the interest level. I definately recoginize those clouds as we're getting our fair share down here in Eugene. I've only been to the gorge once but I really enjoyed it - and the many waterfalls in the area - and have wanted to return ever since, perhaps this summer. Thanks again for sharing this inspiring and majestic image. -Gregory

It seems you like to travel. I wish I had time to go on trips more often... Can't wait for my little girl to grow. She's only three months old now but she's growing fast. :)
Great scenery, Verena, thank you for posting this beautiful image. :)

Oh yeah, this is the view I like. How majestic. The beautiful and many varied greens have been captured superbly. Even though it is a cloudy day, it is still a stunning capture. I drove along the Columbia river many times while trucking and it is a beautiful sight.
Thankyou for bringing back some memories.

Beautiful photo Verena!!! I have seen this same view many times growing up and you captured my memories of it perfectly!!! We RV'd near Multnomah Falls a couple of years ago...so pretty in that area. Perfect exposure...usually cloudy days mess with my shooting but you did it like a pro!!! Great work! :-)))

I don't' have words, Mrs V.. i just don't have words to describe this. What a awsome place! And with the description you've given, it's almost if one is there now. You can see so far, and what a wide river! Those trees are captured very well too.If it's this beautiful on a picture, I can just imagine what it must be to be there in person... I'm really jealous of all the people that have commented here that they've been there already.. and here I am.. so FAR away! Thanx for sharing such a special place with us.. Well done

Hi Verena, this is marvelous photography, some of the best!! I think this image should grace the cover of any National Geographic magazine cover and deem it special, because it truly is! You have quite an eye, with a camera in one hand, coupled with your keen vision, you make quite a pair! Your landscapes are exceptionally beautiful Verena, and your choices of what to shoot and when, having marvelous accessiblity to nature's beauty at your fingertips, you blend it all well! Wow, what a combination, one made in heaven! Of all you shoot and do well, your landscapes remain my favorites! I still remember "Haystack", what a great photo that was! Good work, Sincerely, Marilyn

Verena this is indeed a great image. I love what Marilyn had to say about it and must mirror that comment. If this ever comes up in my voting booth it will get a 10 but for now it goes into my Favorites Gallery.
I have shot many an image from the exact location as this, but none of them have been anywhere as good. I will post one tonight that comes as close to being as good as this as I can muster.
You have a marvelous eye and I look forward to seeing many more beautiful images from you.
