2006 Calendars Almost Ready

Submitted by caedes 11/25/05 8:28 AM GMT

I've finalized the designs for the 2006 calendars. Please proof read the calendar designs and constituent images before they go off to the printer. In particular I'm interested in making sure that the titles and author names go with the correct images. Depending on the response I will make the calendars available for purchase by this weekend.

There were many reasons why some photos did not get chosen. The biggest reason is that the author did not nominate any images. I also had to make decisions based on the resolution of the images that were uploaded as well as the season that the image fit into. There were many more summer images than winter, so many summer images could not be in a calendar. I also made some cuts based on the quality of the work and the suitability for print. I an author's image made all those cuts then I tried very hard to fit it in a calendar; that's why we have so many photography calendars.

After choosing the images to use, I put the requirements into a genetic algorithm in order to find the calendar configurations which satisfied the following criteria best:

  • Had the seasonal images in roughly the correct place.
  • Didn't have more than one author's image in a particular calendar.
  • Tried to include as many different artists as possible.
  • Tried to not include any image in more than one calendar.
  • Not too many images from the same gallery in the same calendar
After that I found that there were a few author's who uploaded images which didn't match the one's they had nominated, so I had to throw those out as well. Many images were also not cropped to the same size as the caedes.net wallpaper, so I had to go back through an fix those by hand. Finally the images were automatically prepared with borders and title/author names from the caedes.net image database.

Looking good concerning mine. I'm honored. :) (.jpg.png? Ah, ok, now I see, you renamed the ones we uploaded with the exactly same name as the ones we had in our galleries, including the .jpg part...) And I thought my autumn shots were my best bet. ^_^

My only concern is not anyones else fault but mine and you don't need to correct it if you don't want to. In the first photo collection I have the image, "Bird-Cherry" as I call it here on caedes in my gallery, I believe the correct english for this would be just "Bird Cherry". I'm not speaking or writing english that good, if you don't think this is an issue, leave it be. If you could write it with the hyphen and don't think it looks silly, I'm fine with that. ^_^

We didn't get very many nominations for digital art or fractals so just about all of the quality examples got in. The photography calendars were much more competitive even with the large number of calendars.

I imagine it was. There are so many great artists here. I'm humbled in their company! :) What do you say about my Swedish spelling problems, does the hyphen look silly or not? If not just leave it be...

(But please tell me it's not an issue then so I can relax about it... ^_^)

looks all fine to me - my only change would be if you could ditch the '2' suffix from the Abbey shot as I guess it doesnt make much sense seen as an individaual shot :-)

In the forth photographic calendar there is a little box (/square) after "Luke" (12th image) I asume the "™" in his profile didn't make it in the fond you use, but I wonder if that should be part of his real name... ^_^ (I quite like the choice of font, and the sober framing btw.)

Might I also suggest a different submission form .. containing exact image name and author name to avoid all the fussing over details .. leaving only a verification of accuracy at this late stage of the game.

It stands to reason most would want "revised" etc removed from the name as it just reflects a new attempt at perfection .. and not a meaningful addition to the name

I am thrilled beyond belief to have been chosen to be in the fractal calandar !!! For someone like myself, a relative newbie to abstract art, this is excitement plus !!

For the record, & I also replied to your email Caedes, but my image titles were correct & so is my username. One question, I don't use my last name on site, is it necessary for the calendar ?

Also, I'd like to second Keith's suggestion of a macro calendar, but modify it to a combined Macro / Textures Calendar......

And a huge congratulation to all the artists whose wonderful work was chosen for a calendar. Whether photographer or digital artist, I know all of you put all of your hearts into your images & it shows. And how nice for you all to get recognition !! * cheers wildly *

Well, first off, just allow me to say that I'm quite honored to have several of my five images selected for the Fractal calendar. I'm actually quite surprised since I'm relatively new to fractal making myself. I'm very proud to be a part of this whole thing. My name is spelled correctly, and the only correction needed is for "Heaven's Gate", on which the apostrophe was omitted. Also noted that "February" was spelled "Febuary" No big deal, just thought you might want to change it. I'd also like to send congratulations out to all my fellow Caedeans who worked so hard, and were fortunate enough to have their images selected as well. You should all be proud!!=)
