Websensei Hosting Alliance Memberships Available

Submitted by caedes 06/28/04 11:25 PM GMT

As you may know, I've organized a group of friends in order to rent a dedicated server for our websites. We share the cost of the server, and therefore get more diskspace/bandwidth/cpu resources for a cheaper price than if we bought the same services from a company. The Alliance has recently had a few members leave and so we have a few membership spots open. The ideal number of members for us is around 20, and we currently have 14 members. So there are around 6 spots open. With 20 members, the dues each month would be less than $7. For that $7 you would get more than 2 Gigs of disk space and around 20 Gigs of bandwidth a month. If you are interested, you can PM me or visit wha.websensei.com for more information and an application form.

Yes, interesting... and a good price. I'm actually looking for webhosting. I'm not sure that this fits my needs though. I'm looking for pop mail access via web interface. I don't see that specifically listed. And how does Redhat differ from Windows hosting regarding maintaining and serving the pages for a basic site? (personal photo galleries, other assorted family stuff)
thanks,
Gabe

It does seem like a good deal. Better than the ones I've used in the past. And the people seem pretty interesting. Which is always a plus. :)

To answer your email question: we have both remote pop and imap access (both secure) and threee different types of webmail access (NeoMail, Horde, and Squirrelmail). Linux (Redhat) has some differences, however if your just use static pages then you won't see much of a difference. What exactly do you need for your pages to work? Are they just static html?

Many of the members use Paypal to pay their dues. Flash doesn't require anything special on the server to run. It should be no problem.

One last question, although it may seem silly: I can setup multiple email address for my domain? (e.g. One domain, five email addresses)

Sounds like a very good deal. I'll look into it, it just depends if I can get the finances together.

weird, I can no longer get to the wha.websensei.com page from work... I'll try from home.
Edit: still works from home though.
Probably the Raptor firewall at work acting up again...
