My favourite film is one of the Spielberg series. "Stand By Me". Growing up as a kid although not in America I acted with my friends the same way, we played around built tree houses talked about stories of weird and wonderfull occurences and deaths in the area. But the best part for me was the Pie eating contest. For those of you who have seen the film the colour purple is my best memory of that film. (Eggs + Cod liver oil).

At the top of my list would have to be the LOTR trilogy; X-Men 1; and the StarWars trilogy - that used to be my absolute favorite but I have gone off them a bit since Mr Lucas started changing things, and Episode One didn't help either. Plus I must have watched them a zillion times so I know them back to front.
I'm sure I have missed some, for most of the above I just checked my DVD collection...
I have a few, not just one. So before I list, I'd like to explain...I am a B movie queen, love B movies!
Evil Dead series
Amazon Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes
Chopper Chicks in Zombietown
Strange Brew
Buckaroo Banzai
Joes Apartment (technically not a B movie, but love it just the same)
Caveman
Anything by the oh-so-brilliant Kevin Smith (Clerks, etc...again not B movies, just awesome movies)
Anything with Bruce Campbell (All hail the king!)
Nuke 'em High
Bill and Ted (one of Keanu Reeves' finest performances)
The list goes on, but I'm sure you get the idea. Oh and for a "real" movie, my fave would have to be "Top Gun"!
The day the earth stood still,
This Island earth, Forbidden planet which is wish they would do a remake on both, From Hell

Mister Roberts
Dead Poets' Society
To Have and Have Not

As good as it gets!!!!
Secretary - "Why do you right women so well"?
Jack Nicholson - "What I do is I think of a man and take away reasoning and accountability".
Ping the lift doors shut. Very very funny indeed.

Movies that made me laugh and laugh and ...
Blazing Saddles.
The Princess Bride.
Down By Law. (Tom Waits, yes, you heard me ... Tom Waits, can act. Any and most of Roberto Benini's films. Which really is the point I am trying to make here. Some, like "It's a Beautiful Life," made me cry ... .)
Woody Allen's earlier films.
Films that made me ... 'and' ... more so ...
(Including, but, not limited to ... cry, think, get angry, ponder, try to figure out, solve, and so on.)
Terms of Endearment. (Oh, bring out the Kleenex ... make that two boxes.)
Sleuth.
Apocalypse Now.
Enter the Dragon. (This just made me wish I had continued with Tae Kwan Do, lol. Still, a very exciting display of martial arts and a not bad story ... really.)
The Truman Show.
Run, Lola, Run. (Do yourself a favour and check this one out.)
The Lightness of Being.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
American History X.
Cape Fear. (Original and re-release.)
Montenegro. (The scene where they stop en route to the hospital with one member of the 'posse' with a knife sticking out of his head, and take a photo ... priceless, and well, sums up the culture shock.)
And quite possibly one of the most, hmm, weird and unsettling endings to a film that I have ever viewed ... "The World According To Garp." (Ok, ok, the whole flic was strange ... and I left feeling like my senses were shell-shocked.)
Oh, if we area going to mention films that made us laugh out loud; I must confess to the Naked Gun series, and "Falsely Accused" also starring Leslie Nielsen. Soooo stupid, but also so funny it made my sides ache...
Tao-te Ching: When everybody in the world understands what beauty is good, then ugliness exists. Thus, wisdom does it's work without action and gives us teaching without words.
Slang Blade, when Billy Bob Thornton went back to the shack where he had to lay in that hole and just stood there and that music i lost it big time. God what a movie. Dwight.
You know, Tom Cruise is a good actor, even if I don't agree with all his views, but his best movies ever HAD to be Top Gun and Risky Business!!! 20 years later and I still can't get enough of those 2 films!!!!
I think Top Gun still rakes in the cash. I just got it when I saw it in the store on DVD. I have it on VHS too. I think just about everyone I know has that film. It was just a kick-ass movie!!!

The LoTR series kicked ass!!! The acting is really great. Who here thinks Sean Astin should've got a nod for his role? I must say I'm miffed that he keeps getting overlooked. He was great in Rudy, and he was the "heart and strength" in LoTR, in my opinion.
It all depends on the mood, but I usually go for a specific person
Kenneth Branagh; HenryV or Hamlet
Bogart; African Queen or The Big Sleep
James Stewart; It's a Wonderful Life
Woody Allen; Love and Death, Manhattan or Annie Hall
Alan Arkin; Wait Untill Dark, The Russians are Coming or Catch 22
Other; Marx Brothers, Buster Keaton, The Thin Man series
Snatch, The Quiet Man, This is Spinal Tap
Red Dawn was a fantastic film, but I need to be in a "strong" mood to watch it as it is also very sad For those that don't recall it, it had Patrick Swayze, C Thomas Howell, Jennifer Grey, Lea Thompson, and on and on...They were a group of High Schoolers who called themselves the Wolverines, they were fighting for freedom after being invaded. It was a mid *0's film, and I can still watch it today and just be sucked in.
There are so many good ones it's hard to narrow it down to just one. First off, yes, the African Queen was excellent. Some other films I've enjoyed include Cool Hand Luke, One Flew OverThe Cuckoo's Nest, Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, True Grit, and Pale Rider. Modern day movies I like include Van Helsing, League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Hellboy, both X Men movies, Spiderman and Spiderman2, The Fast and the Furious, Big Trouble in Little China, all the Terminator movies, Willow, The Princess Bride, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, both Gremlins movies, Dumb and Dumber, and a few others can't recall right now.
The Great Escape
Flash Gordon (with Topol)
Aliens Sp.Ed.
Wallace & Gromit :Curse of the Were-Rabbit.
Italian Job (the original)
Get Carter (the original)
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Tron
Star Wars, before Lucas started revamping them.
Ghostbusters
Bridge over the River Kwai
The Hunt for Red October
Highlander
Top Gun, because it's cool.
I'll get back to this....but this is all off the top of my head.
Cat ! Another Marx Brothers fan !! Yayyy !! Plus all the Thin Man Movies, all the old Charlie Chan movies, every Errol Flynn movie ever made, especially Robin Hood & Captain Blood, Show Boat starring Katherine Grayson & Howard Keel, the gentleman who sang " Ol' Man River " in that blew my socks off, Chicago, Shakespeare In Love, Carousel, Phantom Of The Opera, ( the musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber ), the old Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone, Big Trouble In Little China, ( so quirky & funny ), Strange Brew, Canadian Bacon, most musicals.....Caddyshack
It's tough to pick just one but I'll go with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
"Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony."
"We want...a SHRUBBERY!"
Oh, I love that movie....
Favourites include...
American Beauty
LOTR's
SWars first three (just because Hayden Christian is hot ...it doesn't change anything...)
Syriana was great
Roman Holiday and practically every Audrey Hepburn movie
Funny Face :)
Sound of Music
Lion King! I love that movie :)
coughharrypotterandthegobletoffirecough *dies from holding breath*
Gosford Park
Gods and Monsters
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (duh)
Dead Poets Society
Chocolat and
Italian Job (original)
To Kill a Mocking Bird aaaand Pirates of the Caribbean for Johnny *dribbles* Depp. Orlando's okay, as long as he doesn't talk. ;)
See, now writing that list has made me think of more movies that I love...and I'm going to be totally devestated that I left one out....like The Bourne Identity and Supremacy, I loved those. I kind of spend my entire life watching movies....so I dont have an all time favourite, that'd be like choosing my favourite child. If I had any children. Yeah.
While I'm here my other favorite movie is the silent movie version of The Sound of Music. I especially like the lip synched The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail....and princess diaries...
*edit* dont forget Schindler's List. Even though i dont watch it for "entertainment," its a great movie.
The Neverending Story... must have watched the thing 20 times over when I was a kid...recorded on something that wasn't even a VHS (it was something which came before the video tape^^ lol).
The Goonies... yeah there's a bit of Peter Pan in me...
Amadeus ( GO Salieri!)
The first Star Wars trilogy
LOTR
Grave of the Fireflies... one of the better film about the Horror of War I ever saw. It doesn't matter that it's an anime... it makes me cry every single time I watch it...
You just reminded me of a very, beautifully crafted and animated short film that for opposing reasons to the "Grave of the Fireflies" that you mention, elevate my spirit and thoughts. And yeah, quite moving as well.
"The Man Who Planted Trees."
Wow ... get a chill recalling the power of that film and its' message. Go here for a translated text of the narration that accompanies the film. The words alone still manage to convey this, but ... but, I highly, highly recommend viewing it.
