High School Daze

Ok...so in a year and a half I'll be attending my 20th reunion. I was thinking lately about my High School days and my 10th reunion.

In high school I was a combo of book dork, band geek, and punk rocker. I had hot pink hair, wore alot of sex pistols, bauhaus, siouxie, and other t-shirts. I thought that "Valley Girl" with Nick Cage was one of the most brilliant films ever made aside from perhaps "Breakfast Club" or "Sixteen Candles" or "Weird Science" or "Pretty in PInk". I was in the Marching Band (percussion), I was on Student Council, and in the Performing Arts Club...as well as on the debate team. The day was good when I managed to ditch school and hit the beach or mall without being busted.

Then at my reunion, somehow I got voted as biggest party girl. Maybe because I had a very unique job (I managed my best friend who at the time was a stripper) and had made a load of money which I blew all to hell...maybe it was because I took 6 of my guy friends to a strip joint during the reunion...I don't know.

In 2008, my 20th will have me as yet another incarnation...cancer survivor, mom, and wife. Wonder what that reunion will be like???

Anyway, I'd love to hear stories from you guys about your High School days, and any reunions. Let's dish here...and don't be afraid to let the truth come out. If you were a nerd, be proud. If you were Homecoming Queen, shout it out.

I didn't go to my 10 year reunion... I thought of going, and maybe hiring a ferrari so everyone would think I was rich, but that seemed rather shallow... so I just sent my apologies and explained that the dinner at the White House was on that day, and my leer jet couldn't possibly fly me to the get together on time.

I was mostly a hall monitor, chalk brush reciever, after school blackboard writer, spent quality time with principal. I was told there was no 10 year reunion? Heard that a 20 was coming close. This has been the best 19 years of my life...getting better with age:-)

Well, unfortunately my best friend has become a guardian angel...but believe me, many a man (and woman) was willing to bribe me to go out with her.
I think that what set the mood was that, the night of the reunion formal, I was so damned nervous that I walked in (in my leopard print gown) went straight to the bar ordered up 2 shots and downed them both before going through the introductions. It was pretty funny actually, as I had been chubby in high school and had lost a crapload of weight...as I went to the intro line, all I heard was whispers..."is that Paige" (my middle name)..."I think that's Paige"..."oh my god, look at Paige"...it was what I called sweet revenge, especially since the homecoming queen had BALLOONED up while I had slimmed down (she had always teased me). But isn't that what reunions are about? Meeting up with old friends, and getting revenge on your tormentors. But, as I am older and wiser now...I think my 20th will be a bit more tame.

I have always been on the committee for the reunions. That way I got to help pick the place and plan the night. I would go on a mad diet about 6 months before. I had my makeup and hair done and spent a fortune on a beautiful gown that was sexy and slimming. Everyone has their time to shine. Some people that no one reallly talked to were now, bright and beautiful and some that were the jocks were just plain fat. Then you see someone you had a chance to be with and you are not with, and you can say, smart move. There are always the braggers trying to prove how successful they have become and those trying to use the event to sell you on what ever they are doing for a business. You swear that you will keep in touch and with some you do and others you dont. I always found it annoying when a guy would come up to me and ask me about one of my sisters and give me his card to have them contact him. They are fun as now people are so beyond what group you hung with and what college you attended. Some teachers came too and music was of course from " back in the day."

That is so true! I had a mad crush on this guy in school, and at my 10 year I met up with him again. While he was a successful attourney, he was really fat and balding, and his personality seemed all jaded and such. I'm glad I didn't go that direction. The complete nerd that asked me out to a school dance (and I went because while looking VERY geek-like, he was also very nice) had blossomed into a real hottie. Funny how a few years changes so much.

For me, the one thing I'd like from my 20th, is to meet up with my fave teacher...and to be able to tell her how much she inspired me...it probably won't happen, but if it did, it would make my entire reunion.

I recently was listening to the radio, and heard Gwen Stefani's version of "It's My Life"...boy did I feel old. I remember when that song first came out, by a band called "The The"

That teacher will feel so special if you tell her how much she meant to you. Teachers need reassurance at times that they are still making a difference and that they are motivating students. Report on how your reunion goes. I hope you have a great time.

I was one of the dorky outsider types, on the other hand so were most people @ my school, so it made really weird little cliques. I was too busy to go back last year for my 15 year (hth did that happen?), but they have reunions every year, all alums invited. I've kept in touch with a few people, but for the most part, we've all sort of fallen away.

The really odd part has been the few people who found me on myspace and contacted me. It's not even necessarily people I was friendly with then, just people going "Hey! I know you!" I've also learned that I was apparently more well-thought of than I thought I was. Who knew?
