I kinda got sidetracked from my recent visit to Mark Twain Lake. You can look in the rear view mirror here if you want to see where I have been.

This cabin is located in Florida, Missouri, the town where Mark Twain was born. As you can see from the above link, it is not the cabin of his birthplace. The museum was closed this day. Nonetheless, it is in Florida and it is a nice cabin. I almost posted this in black and white because it covered some of the exposure problems in the sky, but in my final analysis I liked the true color in the warm sunlight better.

Mark Twain had the following to say about Florida and Missouri: "My parents removed to Missouri in the early 'thirties; I do not remember just when, for I was not born then and cared nothing for such things. It was a long journey in those days, and must have been a rough and tiresome one. The home was made in the wee village of Florida, in Monroe County, and I was born there in 1835. The village contained a hundred people and I increased the population by 1 per cent. It is more than many of the best men in history could have done for a town. It may not be modest in me to refer to this, but it is true. There is no record of a person doing as much--not even Shakespeare. But I did it for Florida, and it shows that I could have done it for any place--even London, I suppose."

Mark Twain had a unique way of looking at life which is proven in the following guote: You can't depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. Enjoy.

Do you suppose this is one of the first duplexes? It looks like one.

Might look canny in B&W too..it has the necessary detail...the sun shining from the right has added some good shadows..The lead of the bridge to cabin works well too!...Really good posting!..and thanks for the 'story' as well!

I love the quote and his partial story! You won't believe this, but I've never read anything of Twain's before. Guess I should! A beautiful cabin! And it does look like a duplex but I know it can't be. Got me wondering though...lol

Fine shot here Tick. Looks like a place for the wife and I to stay on one side and my son and his wife on the other side.

Could be one of the first duplexes...Oh great, noisy neighbors...a-playin' fiddle an' pickin' banjo to the wee arzz of the mornin', hootin' an' a-hollerin', smokin' that left-handed Choctaw blend, drinkin' that "Who-Hit-John", scampy lay-deez runnin' 'bout in their scants...

Where do I sign up? (lol)

Nice presentation, Cap'n...Faved...

Not my favorite author, but nevertheless an American hero of sorts. That's a quaint little two sided cabin that stores memorabilia I expect. I have seen a similar dwelling in another post here. The setting sun created warm pockets of light in your image and your lens was able to capture enough of it to show us all in detail. There is also a Florida in MA. I wonder how many there might be across the country.

Don't they have palm trees in Florida MO? (There aren't any in California, OH neither!) Great looking shot of the cabin. Is that an outdoor living room, or is that where they parked the horse and buggy? Nice work, Tick.

A nice shot of this conveniently built "duplex" where you can walk right through or take shelter from the rain Tick. I like that quote about not depending on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus. It happens to me often when my wife shows me something she has bought and wants my comment on it :)

I see a lot of old cabins with the open space in the middle, the significance of which I don't comprehend. Like the image.

Missouri must have been positively the frontier in 1835 and every bit as rustic as this rustic museum... Oddly enough, Twain lived for many years in a much less rustic, and much larger, house in Connecticut, where he conjured the likes of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer... He may have been homesick at the time... I think this would be swift in b&w too.
