We normally don't get gulls in Northern Missouri, but sometimes just before Spring arrives, a few find their way to some of our lakes. Such was the case this year. I think they followed the Robins. You might have seen them in one of my earlier posts. This was taken at the lake that borders one of my favorite places on earth. Of course it is the Golf Course I lovingly call Lank Links.

I wasn't the only one surprised to see them. Gus and his doppleganger were also wondering what they were doing here. Normally it would have bothered them immensely, but today they were upset about losing so many of their friends. You can read about it here. I even hear Gus say he might take a train next year. In honor of his fallen comrades, Gus asked me to dedicate this song. Enjoy and say a kind word for the geese.

Looks like they are trying to stare each other out!...either that, or they are both females and having a good natter!....

Good depth on this..sharp details all the way to the rear!

Not only a good post, but a great old song choice. Brings back lots of memories my friend. That is terrible about the big loss of geese. I would hate to see that happen, I'm such a softie. tigz=^..^=

A good post Tic with an interesting composition, there's quite a bit to see here, I'm wondering why that Gull still has a fish in it's beak.

Edit: Yep I've just noticed it's a manip, a little late on the draw there partner, failed to read entire narrative, shame about those Snow Geese. |o:

I don't see Canada Geese in Delaware, but I think they have trillions of Snow Geese...and gulls..the ones that look like they dipped their heads in chocolate. These two look like they might be discussing how they could get rid of the gulls and eat their food. I don't see what the problem is though. They could easily go over to them and kick their *****! You did a great job with this, Tick.

I thought I noticed some of the gulls in Toronto were missing...now I see where they've gotten to...on a more serious note, sad to read the story about all those dead birds...I do like the 'up close and personal' mood here though...rather endearing and I never thought I'd feel that way about Canada geese...great manip, SOT, and nice song choice to accompany.

The song, "Strangers on The Shore" by Acker Bilk immediately came to mind when I read your title. There were so many great instrumentals back in the day. I did read that article this morning and was saddened to hear about the geese who contracted Avian Cholera. I love those two love birds - your post is very cute. And let's not forget about that trio of seagulls in the background - I think seagulls are cool, but there are many who find them to be a nuisance. Nice one Tick!!!

Lovely looking manipulation with stunning colours and superb detail .I espcicaly like the ripples and colour of the water and the seagulls add that extra nice feel to this photo too.Love how you managed to capture one gull with a fish in it's beak and the line of floating weed too.

Nice shot of the seagulls and also Gus and his cloned twin Tick. That wonderful melody by Acker Bilk is unforgettable. I have it on CD too. Hopefully the geese did not die of some disease that can be passed on to humans.

Well you chose one of my favorite instrumentals Tick - we danced to it at our wedding - I had read about the geese - I think life is very fleeting for many of our avian friends - we have gulls regularly blown in from Lake Michigan and they manage to co-exist with the Canadian geese as well - I like the manip - together with the song and narrative pretty near perfect.

Love this 'oldie' from Acker Bilk, Tick. A very appropriate one on this occasion. I feel sympathy for Gus and its cloned companion.
If Gus has the intention to take the train next year, my advice to him is not to take a boxcar. Good manip and narrative Owd Fella.

Tick...a great job of manipulation here. Did You also do something unique with the gulls - they look as though they are walking on water. A great seaside photo.

A skilled manip and interesting story, TicK. When I get to play golf in upstate NY or in CT, the more than abundant population of geese tend to leave their own version hazards in the fairways and on the greens. They aren't very welcomed by golfers.

A narrative with quite a few twists and turns Tick! a cool manip that's easy to see today. I hope that bird disease doesn't spread, we don't want to loose any Bald Eagles too.

I was kinda feeling Frank Sinatra and Strangers In The Night. I think the composition is excellent with the two geese starring at each in the front.

I have always loved 'Strangers On The Shore' - now I will always see this scene when I hear it ! I find the picture quite comical but the story about the Snow geese is very very sad :(

Now I have a hankering to re-read 'The Snow Goose' by Paul Gallico - and probably cry.

Excellent capture and looks like the Canadian Geese aren't too happy with the gulls. Wonderful colours & textures, we have lots of gulls I could ship you some, lol.

Oh my goodness, read the link what a surprise and so sad to read of a terrible thing happening to our wildlife.
