First off, I have been waiting for an updated Google street view image of the street where my house used to be. I heard it was demolished like the countless other homes in Detroit, but when I went today because I saw it had been updated, it blew my mind. Second off, if that's a phrase, I am not sadden at all by seeing an empty lot where my childhood home use to stand. For me, it is so strange to think everything fit into this little patch of land. Granted, we didn't have an acre of two, but our house was pretty large and the backyard was a decent size. The refuse you see here is very typical all througout Detroit. Sad, but despite the so called come back people talk about, the city has many years to get back on track. Please check out this link it's not the best shot, but shows you what was there. I also submitted this one as well

Well, that is how it is Alex. Nothing lasts for ever. In this case in spite of your nostalgia, after what I have heard about the city of Detroit and seeing the rubbish in your photo I would say you are far better off in Florida. I have never been in Detroit but I have seen it close a few times from the water side from the ships that I was on, on our way in and out of the lakes. That was about 35 years ago!

---the city has many years to get back on track---

By judging this image, to me you're right Alex.
To me hard to imagine that people are able to leave this mess/rubbish behind. From the point of view of public health (rats and other vermin), this is irresponsible!

But you still have good memories of the places you grew up in!...

Good on you to check out what has been happening.

A shame to find this when you go back to see your old home...I took a look at a place I once lived at in Montreal years ago and was disappointed to learn how dirty and run down it had gotten...on the other hand, an old home my Grandmother once had was nicely kept up and renovated...you just never know...sometimes entire neighborhoods change for the worse.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Thomas Wolfe was right when he wrote: "You can't go home again," Alex. You can visit, drive by and remember, but you can't go home again.
Too bad Detroit hasn't fully rebounded.
