Here is the first in my series on 'The Forest of Dean. It is a quite small but beautiful woodland on the border between England and Wales which i visited recently. This is inside Tintern Abbey. Im sorry about the sky! It was 8/8ths white cloud cover and so the gaps between are a bit bleak! As always comments and constructive advice gratefully recieved especially if anyone has clever advice about how to take shots of this typically English sky without having the icky brightness!!

Rachel, a former famous soccer player in my country once said: 'Every disadvantage has its own advantage.' To me, this is the case here as well. A perfectly clouded sky would have made this impressive image too 'busy'. Now all the attentention is caught by the main subject, the abbey, resulting in a very fine post!

Regards, Cornelius.

You did a great job on this shot, Rachel. That white sky could have easily overwhelmed your shot with excessive backlighting. Very nice work of capturing the textures of the stone and the overall beauty of the arches. That's a wild perspective looking up into this architectural marvel. 8.5 out of 10. Great colors too.

Rachel - Seeing this makes me want to read a bit of Wordsworth. Very well done, as Cornelius aptly describes. Thad

A nice perspective in your photo, Rachel. A great capture of this stone forest. Wonderful textures and details in the photo. The sky as is works with this shot.

You did a great job capturing the beauty of these arches! Some people clone out the sky and add a different one in. This one is nice and uniform and provides a nice contrast to the Abbey.
