Continuing my Autumn theme :) I was trying to capture the reflected colours in the duck pond when I spotted this bird - definitely not a duck! Someone may know what it is, I don't. I think it was trying to impress the Mallard girl swimming past but she took no notice so he flew away, back to wherever he came from :) . . Panasonic DMC-FZ7. Thanks for looking, any comments most welcome.

Ah, Nancy I think you are correct. We have an enormous colony of Cormorants at our harbour (Spotted Shag or Parekareka, Phalacrocorax punctatus, found only in NZ) but they have white fronts and this one was all black - maybe a different kind. Its blue tail was quite beautiful.

Nancy is correct, it's a cormorant. Cormorants are only there where's plenty of fish. Great post (capture and presentation) again Lyn.

You've captured the seasonal colors perfectly! The bonus of this bird drying his wings is pure icing on the cake. Well done!

Beautiful image, Eve, with the pose of the bird and the gleaming reflections in the water. What a pretty place to take photos and this one is well composed.

From that bent beak I guess it is a cormorant. Impressive, with wings spread out. Very nice capture, Lyn.

Beautiful! There is a comorant that sits on the same bouy everyday and strikes this pose. I miss him every single time, so I am glad to see this capture Lyn.

I think it is Commorant Klink from Hogans Heroes. I might have that mixed up a little. All my feathers are not waterproof. Good post Lyn. It sure is a beautiful bird. That is quite the takeoff it has. Looks like a rocket launch. Outstanding post.

I think it can be a Black Shag or Great Shag. I googled it and found that they are common in NZ . A very beautiful image and a great capture. I love the golden water and the rippled reflections.

The golden water is beautiful and cormorants (or is it a guillemot) really fascinate me. There are some nesting on the Thames and they make an amazing sight with their wings outstretched.
