A gathering of Spotted Shags and Otago Shags that roost and nest on this historic wharf since they claimed ownership when it was closed to the public for safety reasons. There is talk of it being restored but hopefully the rights of the birds will be respected as well. You may also be able to see the small stones that cover the wharf. The birds swallow them for bouyancy control.This was taken on Easter day with Panasonic TZ60.

I tried to count and gave up after 3 :) Very good take of this bird meeting. They are discussing how they should "strike" if the wharf is opened to public.

Oh this is a good one Lyn, there sure are alot of them. I chuckled at the comment by Raj. I do hope they are not harmed in any way if it gets restored, and re-opened. tigs=^..^=
