Yeah, you know the old saying about creating a silk purse from a sow's ear, right? Well this may not be a silk purse but I do intend for it to be an exercise in finding photo opportunities when you might think there aren't any. In this case I am reduced to an iPhone camera (since my DSLR died) and too busy home working on projects to go out looking for idyllic landscapes (a young woman Caedesian, years ago, often complained that in her somewhat barren part of Kansas--she thought--there was nothing to shoot, until I got her to look closer, for macro captures), so by dint of being short of opportunity, I have to rely on my ability to spot unusual views to capture. This one falls in my "Whatzit?" category, although because of my post-shutter work I have placed it in the Textures gallery. It's nothing beautiful, for sure, but unusual enough to let it sit here for a few days while you nice folks figure out what it is (it shouldn't be too difficult). Happy Trails, y'all. - nik

'Nik', there are countless subjects to photograph. However, there are many photographing people who don't see the special character of a subject or think that a photograph of it is too out of the box.
A while ago I was invited to show a selection of my captures to a group of older people living in my area. I consciously chose photographs that were taken within a 2.5 mile radius of my home. My 'spectators' were asked to guess where a photograph was taken or what it represented. They usually didn't know. When I told them the solution they were filled with disbelief. It proved to me that many people walk by without seeing the special character of things.
Your photograph would fit perfectly into my story. However, you live too far from me to invite you to a presentation here. If that had been possible, I think the outcome would have been the same.
After the above story, I must admit with some shame that a similar fate has now befallen me now: I still have no solution to what you show us here, 😁 . At first I thought I had shown you the inside of a flexible suction hose, but on second thought I rejected that thought (because of the tiles). I'm curious.

If you think you can't accept something, try to change it. But if this doesn't work, don't be frustrated, but give it later another try. The one who perseveres wins! Please CLICK HERE to see my journal! Feel free to save my images or to add them to your favorites.

May it be a virtual colonoscopy of the space alien known as, "The Purple People Eater?"

Well now, Sandi came a bit closer in guessing - a few nights ago I was in bed, had finished reading with my book light, and had placed the light on my side table before crashing for the night. I have an industrial style lamp that includes a blown clear glass cylinder hanging vertically around the bulb, about 4 inches wide by 7 inches tall, rounded at the top and open on the bottom. I had laid the still lit light under that glass, pointing upwards into the cylinder, and this capture was of the variegated light that it was throwing on the ceiling. Those squares, Sandi, are old-fashioned ceiling tiles, rather than floor tiles. No big deal, but unusual enough to draw my attention (yeah, I am weird that way :o).

You just never know when your unique observations will create an intriguing capture. This is a stunning creation.

I disagree: there's lots to explore there. I find ripples and reflections absolutely fascinating - they're a lot like fractals. The mathematics involved in describing something like this are quite complex. oh, and I really like that color: it's calming yet interesting.
