One thing I noticed about all the buggy harnesses-see that leather strap going from between the ears down to the withers and attached to the hook on the part of the harness sitting on the red pad? That's to keep the horse from being able to get his head down at which point they could cause a problem by bucking or running away with you. However, all these straps seemed to be really tight and restrictive on Amish buggies. I guess it's necessary to keep the horse under control when encountering all the traffic and big trucks on highways. I would think it makes the horse have to work harder when going up a steep incline as the natural thing for a horse to do is put his down so he can pull harder. Looks uncomfortable to me.
