NOTE: THIS IMAGE IS NOT TO BE POSTED OR USED ON ANY OTHER WEBSITE. Such a sweet, gentle face on this Amish buggy horse. He's a different color from the norm. One thing I noticed about all the buggy harnesses-see that leather strap going from between the ears down to the withers and attached to the hook on the part of the harness sitting on the red pad? That's to keep the horse from being able to get his head down at which point they could cause a problem by bucking or running away with you. However, all these straps seemed to be really tight and restrictive on Amish buggies. I guess it's necessary to keep the horse under control when encountering all the traffic and big trucks on highways. I would think it makes the horse have to work harder when going up a steep incline as the natural thing for a horse to do is put his down so he can pull harder. Looks uncomfortable to me.

When I saw only the title of your image, I guessed what was your doubt whether people do like you or not, Momma, lol.

But it turned out slightly different. Of course I like to give the answer "Yes" as well. How can one not like such a cute horse.

Very fine post, Pat.

Regards, Cornelius.

Such a beautiful animal, I wonder if they use the big one for a work horse in the field? That does look so restrictive, I agree.

The horse does look gentle in spite of all the restraints. Probably because of the Amish way of life!

I do like him , beautiful face with soft eyes. Some of the Amish in Indiana also use the same strap. I have discovered through my horse rescue work that some in the Amish community don't care about the comfort of the horse, not all but some. And to many certainly don't take the time to train a horse so perhaps the strap is not needed . Life for an Amish horse is not an easy life neither is their death. Excellent post !

The strap maybe a little uncomfortable on the horses, but they're only pulling buggies for a short time. Keep these Amish uploads coming Pat I love them.
