This is a crawfishing boat, one of the strangest looking contraptions ever built. But, it is what is used to harvest crawfish. A lot of crawfish fields are right along a major interstate where I live, I-10. I can only wonder what tourists from out of state must think when they see one of these contraptions slogging through a flooded rice field. Crawfish are a second crop for farmers after harvesting rice. The rice field is then flooded with only inches of water and then crawfish traps with bait inside (fish)like the one sitting by the boat with a red top are placed throughout the field. Of course you can't run a regular boat engine through only inches of water so someone came up with that weird looking disk wheel at the back of the boat that pushes the craft through the mud and water. Ahhh, the ingenuity of Cajuns. Paste this link in your browser (Crawfish Boat YouTube) to see one in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0extLHtC7w

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Very inventive!
Your narrative was already clear Momma, but the 'Crawfish Boat 20130429' video gave a dynamic impression. I saw the 'Crawfishing in a Louisiana crawfishing pond Part 1' video as well.

Perfect and fine accompanying image, Pat!

The Cajuns are quite ingenious Owd Momma. I have eaten crawfish a few times. They also make excellent catfish bait.
I really enjoyed this post.

A strange contraption indeed. I am impressed by what I saw on the Utube link and I liked the song too.

Thanks Cornelius for the links. I didn't know they steered the boat with their feet either and had never seen how they put down and pick up the pots.
