Oh wow! This is poetic and thought provoking too. I love the effect, (in camera?). This one is just highly pleasing and very creative. I can see all kinds of figures in those tree roots. Beautiful and mood setting.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Think it might be fairies that can be seen between the roots. ;-)

It doesn't look like that tree will be standing too much longer. Pretty nice shot with the sun peeking through.

I love this too!! First I saw it in the voting booth and gave it hight marks even though it looks much better full sized like this. I know I'm late, but it was worth the wait to be able to slip it into my fave file....which one, though?

You got the starburst perfectly, and the background is wonderful too. The whole photo is just awesome. Thank you so very very much. Verena

Paul, I knew this was yours the moment I saw it on the front page (congrats). I feel like I'm looking at a living ghost. It's both eerie, and beautiful, in it's own way. Great capture and composition.
