I've seen countless photos in the VB that scream for a proper crop, having a potentially gorgeous focal point but leaving in a lot of dead space around it -- shot from too far away to do the focal point justice. This is NOT one of those photos. I'm assuming this one was shot either in close, or with a decent telephoto, with a wide depth-of-field and tack sharp to boot, because it encompasses what would constitute National Geographic content and quality. Everything you would wish to know about the bird is in the photo; the minute details of the feathers, the variety of colors, from solid to iridescent, the interplay of sunlight and shadows affecting those colors, the almost flesh-like bill... it's all there. This photo should be used as part of a "Techniques To Use" list for novice photographers to help them take photos worthy of publication. I gave it a 10 only because the vote range doesn't go to 12. I've seen many of your other works, Paul, and I know you don't need my accolades, but nonetheless, this is outstanding.
