The "Holstentor" (Holsten gate) was the main entrance to the city of Luebeck, Germany. Its origin goes back to the year 1477. If you follow this link (and if you have the patience) you can read the whole history of Holstentor.

My entry for the contest.

So this is the field side of the gate, according to Wikipedia, and it was the middle of a series of gates, almost destroyed to make way for a railway line. What a magnificent structure and wonderful entry for the contest!!

The link was fascinating to me Raj as I took a lot of Medieval studies and literature in college - a magnificent structure so very well captured.

Raj - With outstanding lighting, crisp focus, and great colors, you show this medieval city gate beautifully. It has to be viewed full size to appreciate the details. Thad
