Aaargh! This is not a Wright engine!!! I was wrong...
A Pratt&Whitney.... II thought P&W manufactured only 9 cylinders (Wasp) or 18 cylinders (double wasp) radial engine...
What was the aircraft ?

Very nice image composition with sharp details. A nice capture and wallpaper design.

PPigeon (Pierre) ... not completely sure but I believe that this engine was in a Harvard Trainer.

You are more than probably right, Rob.
Look here. The Harvard has exactly the same engine (Pratt & Whitney R-1340-AN-1).

Designed by George Mead, the Wasp engine was the mainstay of aircraft engines for quite a while, and was the bread and butter for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, using propellors designed by Hamilton Standard. This was produced not far from where I live. Terrific detailed photo.

This is another one of those photos that is so well composed, tack-sharp, has excellent composition, and is an interesting subject that, even though it was shot almost 5-1/2 years ago, probably with a lesser-rez camera than is available today, can hold its own against the 18mp shots of today. I've been a member, off and on, since April of '06 and I'm surprised I haven't seen it before. Top-drawer submission, thanks for sharing it, and into my favorites file it goes.
